How One Inspections Associate is Working Toward Certification while Installing Solar Roofs
Rick C. is an Inspections Associate and solar installer at GAF Energy. As someone who joined the company with little experience, but a lot of ambition, his story shows the ways GAF Energy employees have endless opportunities to develop professionally. With the support of the GAF Energy team, Rick has propelled his skills and knowledge forward to the benefit of his career and the company’s ambitious growth.
Rick joined the GAF Energy team in November 2020. Before coming on board, he had been working in the same warehouse for nearly eight years. He was dedicated to his company, but felt like he could do more. He felt too comfortable and was ready for a challenge.
Along with his warehouse job, Rick occasionally helped out his long-time friend, Mario, with electrical work. He did such a great job and was such a fast learner that when an assistant electrician position opened up on Mario’s team at GAF Energy, he encouraged Rick to apply.
After discussing the opportunity and culture of GAF Energy with Mario, Rick was eager to join. “I knew solar was the next big thing, and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon,” said Rick. “There’s always going to be a need for it. So I figured I’d give it a chance and apply.”
The only hold up was his lack of formal training.
GAF Energy encourages and supports on-the-job learning and professional certifications. Rick was hired onto the team with the intention to continue his education while working. GAF Energy put Rick through his OSHA 30 and CPR certifications, and from there, GAF Energy has invested in making sure that Rick has everything he needs to propel his career and the company forward.
In the near future, GAF Energy and Rick are partnering to get him certified as a Journeyman Electrician. He is currently enrolled in a program through the Western Electrical Contractors Association (WECA). Rick says he feels like he is really learning from the best at GAF Energy.
When asked what he likes about working at GAF Energy, Rick’s immediate response is the people. “The best part about working for this company is the people and the environment. The people are amazing here. I think if it wasn’t for that, GAF Energy wouldn’t be what it is.“
